Editorial Policy

Bokutani is a peer-reviewed journal dedicated to advancing African-centered knowledge across disciplinary, linguistic, regional, and epistemic boundaries. Aligned with the mission of the African Studies Association of Africa (ASAA), the journal centers African epistemologies and intellectual traditions, offering a platform for dialogue, critique, and the production of knowledge that reflects the diversity and complexity of Africa and its diasporas.

We publish original research articles, theoretical essays, reflections, and reviews that critically engage with African intellectual traditions, decolonial approaches, and global conversations from Africa-centered perspectives.

Editorial Procedure

All submissions will undergo a rigorous double-blind peer-review process to ensure the highest standards of academic quality and relevance.

Reviewers are selected based on subject expertise and scholarly standing. Final publication decisions rest with the Editors. Authors may suggest potential reviewers, provided there is no conflict of interest.

Copyright and Reproduction

Authors retain copyright over their individual contributions. The overall edition is copyrighted by the African Studies Association of Africa (ASAA). Reproduction or distribution of material from Bokutani in any form, electronic or print, requires prior written permission from the Editors.

Permission to reprint or reproduce content should be requested no sooner than one year after original publication and should cite Bokutani as the original source.

Manuscript Submissions

Authors should submit their manuscripts by email to: [email protected].
Submissions must be in Word format, and include original illustration files separately. Figures must also be inserted into the manuscript itself.

After revisions and final acceptance by the editorial board, authors must resubmit the final version of the manuscript in Word format, with final illustrations (figures, graphs, photographs, etc.) inserted and also provided as separate high-resolution files in one of the following formats: .eps, .tif, .jpg.
